Transfer prior year personal info to 2024

I'm trying to get started with 2024 using TurboTax Mac Download. Please remind me how to transfer data from my 2023 return (also with TurboTax Desktop) to 2024 forms. I'm unable to find a "Tax Tools" in top bar nor in a side bar.

If you used the Desktop program, you need the data file ending in .tax2023 to transfer. It should be in your Documents then in a Turbo Tax folder. Or search your whole computer for all files ending in .tax or .tax2023.

I think when you first open the program on the Welcome screen should be a Transfer button. Or maybe you have to first click on Begin.

The faq refers to TurboTax Online. Does this also apply to Mac Download version?

If you are using desktop download software, you open up your installed 2024 program from your own hard drive, go up to the top of your screen to the word File, click it and then click on the drop down that says New Tax Return. That will take you to a screen that asks if you want to use a 2023 tax return that is on your computer, continue without transferring or import from TurboTax Online.

Remember you are looking for the file called .tax2023 not a pdf.

Thanks for your reply; however, that command goes directly to data entry page without the option to begin from prior year form.

OK. So I went back, closed everything, dusted myself off and started all over again following your directions. It worked.

I'm still baffled as to why this is so not intuitive, but I've made detailed notes for next year to perhaps save me some time. I'm sure the kids in software development will change something for next year, though. I won't hold my breath until then.
