Question

transfering in pdf 2023 into my downloaded 2024 return. I thought I did already, but the prior info is not showing up. I am not using the online version.

I am using a different computer this year.  I sent a pdf file of 2023 to myself.  I thought I had imported the info to my new return, but it is not showing up.  I am not using the online version. Is it still possible to import?

You said:  "I sent a pdf file of 2023 to myself"

Does that mean you emailed it?   If so, be aware that it is not secure to email tax files--PDFs or tax data files.  Those files are too sensitive for ordinary email.  They have banking information, SSN, all sorts of things.    You can use a thumb drive or writeable CD to move the tax data file to your new computer.

I presume that by "downloaded 2024 return" you mean you are using the desktop software.

You can only transfer prior-year 2023 data at the start of a new return.  You can't transfer-in data into an already-started return.  You'd have to start a new return to transfer-in data.

You need to be transferring in from the *.tax2023 data file.  Using the 2023 PDF is not recommended, and as you experienced, may not work.  Even when a 2023 PDF file works, it's only minimal info that transfers in, such as bio, and a few basic things.
