Trying to file 2019 returns. State is requesting e-file, federal needs to be mailed, correct? How to proceed?

Federal return was rejected because TurboTax prompted me to create a new PIN, which didn't match the old one.

Prior year returns must be paper-filed, as e-filing is no longer available.

See the following Help Article on how to file a 2017, 2018, or 2019 tax return.

How do I prepare a 2019, 2018, or 2017 tax return?

You cannot e-file any kind of 2019 return.  It has to be filed by mail   E-filing has been permanently closed for 2019 returns since October 2020.  Print, sign and mail your 2019 federal and state returns.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Thank you for the detailed response. I appreciate your help!  I saw the "closing date" for e-filing, but also received a notification containing inaccurate information from Intuit via email (prior to the current tax season) that indicated e-filing was available.  A similar message is included at the bottom of the "How to Print & File by Mail" directions previously mentioned.
