TT Business 2021 has infinite loop for change of Trustee address

I've found an infinite loop in TTB 2021 and I've only gotten to entering my address.  I moved since last year.  So on the About your Trust or Estate screen I checked "This info is different from what was reported on last year's return".  Pressing Continue presents  the Change of Address... screen, which says I have to submit Form 8822-B.  There are two options from that screen (skip the form, and Continue).  Continue helps me submit the form.  Ok, I've done that.  Now I chose Skip, but it takes me back to the About page, where there is no option for "I submitted the form" so that I can continue with my return.  So I'm guessing I now have to lie to TTB on the About page, unchecking "This info is different".

Ok, I tried that, yes; if I lie, I can continue.  Can someone report this software bug?

Separately, there is a list of topics on this page (where I'm composing this message) but "software bug" isn't shown as a topic.  Where can I make a suggestion to add that?  And why is the list of topics BELOW the Post button, rather than ABOVE it on this page?

Edit: there's another related bug.  Once I lie (as above), I get to the Change in Trust Name screen.  No change to the name, but yes, there was a change to the address.  (Note that the Fiduciary Change screen keeps forgetting my answer ("Changed fiduciary address only").)

The bug is similar: I have to lie to the software on the screen following Change in Trust Name, saying there is no change from last year's return.  That's the only way to continue with my return.

Hi -

Just reporting this is still an issue in TurboTax Business 2022.  Since the buttons didn't work for continue or ok to get out of the loop, I tapped on the menu for Federal Taxes to move on from General Information.  We'll see if I'm still able to file - I'm ambivalent about unchecking items if the address genuinely changed.  Regardless - TurboTax's instructions / procedure for this need improvement, still.

To OP, thanks for using "infinite loop" in your post - those were my search terms to see if someone had already reported this to the community.  (And ideally, ultimately, as a bug to Intuit or whoever owns them now.)

Change in Fiduciary's Address

If the same fiduciary who filed the prior year's return (or Form SS-4 if this is the first return being filed) files the current year's return and changed the address on the return (including a change to an "in care of" name and address), and didn't report the change on Form 8822-B, check this box.

If the address shown on Form 1041 changes after you file the form (including a change to an "in care of" name and address), file Form 8822-B to notify the IRS of the change.

As in your other post, you should contact Support tomorrow.

What is the TurboTax phone number? (intuit.com)

I finally called support.  First level phone support was great, but she couldn't get second level support to understand the problem.  I sent her the list of TurboTax pages I was going through, she sent that to them, and they still didn't get it.  Here's what I sent her for how the pages in TT are looping.  Each line below starts with the name of a page in TurboTax Business 2021, followed by my actions on the page.

Here’s your summary (with “this info is different” checked), Continue

Change of address, location or Responsible Party, Continue

Change of Address,  Continue

Old Mailing Address, No

New Mailing Address, yes

New Business Address, yes

Old Mailing Address, Continue

Signature Information, Continue

Where to File, Continue

Here’s your summary (and the checkboxes are correctly filled at the bottom of the page).

Pressing Continue starts the whole process again, as above.

The only way out of this is to uncheck that there was a change since last year's return.  Even then I had to go through a follow up sequence of pages, which I describe on my second bug report, at https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/fiduciary-last-name-is-lost-by-tt-business-2021/01/2579777#M924710

Only after that (and saying there's "no change" on both pages (on "Here’s your summary" and, as in my other bug report, "Let’s Verify Name and Address")), can I finally get beyond the bugs and get on with my return.  It would great if someone could report these bugs directly to Intuit developers, rather than to the contract customer support company.

The real problem is that if I "lie to TurboTax" (that is, say there's been no change) then I can use TT to prepare my return, but the 1041 form that TT generates to send to the IRS will be wrong (will not show a checkmark on line F for "change in fiduciary's address"). That means I will have to file on paper, so that I can check that box. It's a work around for this bug but it's a real pain.

Regarding the change of address for the Trustee, this is done in two steps.

  1. First, click on General Info >> About Your Trust or Estate >> Edit the Trustee information and enter the new address.
  2. Next, check the box for "This information is different..."
Complete Form 8822-B. Note this form must be mailed separately from your tax return.

When you are taken back to the summary page, confirm the Trustee address is correct.

You will need to uncheck the box for "This information is different..." in order to continue. You can confirm Form 8822-B has been created by clicking on the Forms icon in the TurboTax header and look for Form 8822 B in the left column.

Once you are finished reviewing the Trust information, open Form 1041 and check the box under F for "Change in fiduciary's address," if it is not already checked.

This resolves the correct reporting of both the new address and letting the IRS know the address has changed. Be sure to mail Form 8822-B when you file the trust return.
