TT reports "A Link to Schedule C should not be linked"

TurboTax is reporting an error, "Form 1099-MISC Worksheet (Redacted): A Link to Schedule C should not be linked when the MWP qualifying as difficulty of care payments exclusion box has been checked"

I have not reported any "difficulty of care payments" nor can I find the reported "exclusion box" to uncheck.

How do I correct this error?

Workaround: I removed the problematic 1099-MISC and enter the value directly on Schedule C. That solved my particular situation.

If you did not have any Medicare Waiver payments, you might have accidentally made the selection during the 1099-Misc entry.  To correct this, follow these steps:

    1.   Click Wage & Income
    2. Scroll down to Income form Form 1099-Misc, Click Edit/Add
    3. Click Edit Beside 1099-Misc
    4. Confirm information enter and click continue
    5. Click Continue for a reason for this 1099-Misc
    6. Verify you did not select This income is a Medicare waiver payment that qualifies as a difficulty of care payment.  (See Screenshot)

I'm experiencing the exact same condition as @mattw00.  I followed your instructions and verified I do NOT have the MWP radio button selected. I have "None of these apply" selected. However, I am also/still getting the same response from the Smart Check tool. Can I safely ignore this warning? Or is this a bug that needs to be investigated and fixed before continuing my return?

If you have the MWP error showing on Turbotax Desktop. In this current version as of todays date, there is no option to uncheck in step by step.

    To fix:

    Go to Forms

    Find the 1099misc worksheet

Scroll all the way to the bottom and uncheck the box under Medical Waiver Payments.

The error should go away after that.

That section isn't on the worksheet as I see it. It jumps right from Boxes 16-18 to Additional Payer...

Same problem here. I was passing all the checks two days ago, now I am getting this error. I tried checking MWP on the form, exiting it and then coming back an unchecking it but it did not help.

    February 28, 2023

I deleted the 1099Misc and reentered it as a 1099NEC, which is probably what the payor should have sent me in the first place.  Everything stayed exactly the same after I made that change, state and fed total tax, self employment tax, etc. so this does appear to be a fix, at least in my case.

But will the IRS "flag" it because they are expecting you to report 1099 MISC earnings?

    Also having this issue.

    February 23, 2023

Also having this issue. Had already entered a 1099-MISC with Other Income in Box 3 linked to my Schedule F a couple days ago with no problems. Now after today's update (2/23/2023) it displays an error that I can't link this 1099-MISC to my Schedule F since the MWP qualifying as difficulty of care payments exclusion box has been checked. I never checked this box, and the checkbox on the worksheet does not display below the Boxes 16-18 section as shown in an earlier post so I'm unable to uncheck it.

I'm not getting this error for other 1099-MISC forms I have, though.

I can confirm the same issue and same form view as others have already shown after todays (2/23/2023) update as linked to 1099-MISC Business Income with no way to correct as outlined by TurboTax responses.  When will this obvious bug be fixed!

In no way is this issue "Solved".

Medical Waiver Payments box is not present after 2/23 update.  Hard to "Get Your Taxes Done" when basic form bugs like this are in place.  I did test just removing the errant 1099MISC form and entering as 1099NEC, but we as users should not have to do these tricks.  Please fix this bug!

The updated is having a problem. I dint have the problem last weekend.  I got the the problem today (2/25/23)  and yesterday.  The 1099-MISC form wont be included in the (final) file if I ignore it. So it got be fixed.

    Having same issue.

How do you input directly in schedule c? The space for 1c is white, so I can't input any data.

    February 24, 2023

    I also have this issue,

The MWP box is not on the form and i have none selected.

This is the desktop version and it was updated yesterday 2-23-23.

Does anyone have a idea how to fix this or when a update to fix this error will be available?

    Thanks for your assistance

    February 24, 2023

I thought there would be a new update on 2/24/23.   Still no box to "uncheck".  Just put it back to the way it was on 2-22-23 before the update that caused this.

As a workaround, until we can get the error removed, try

    1. Deleting the 1099-MISC with amounts in Box 3 and
    2. Enter the form as a 1099-NEC with the amount in Box 1

The results will be the same on Schedule C.   And the 1099-NEC will link to Schedule C without an error.

I disabled conversion error checking in the e-file center and successfully e-filed.

    February 26, 2023

This sounds useful but I am not sure how to locate "conversion error checking in the e-file center" in order to disable it.

    February 26, 2023

    In ProSeries:

    1. Go to the EF Center.
    2. Select the client's federal, and state return if applicable.
    3. From the E-File menu, select Electronic Filing and then Convert/Transmit Returns/Extensions/Payments.
    4. On the Electronic Filing Options choose Convert and Transmit selected returns/extensions/payments.
    5. Uncheck Enable conversion error checking then click OK.

Here’s a link to a previous post about turning off error checking:

Is Intuit Turbo tax going to fix this bug?   I need to efile my tax  return by this weekend.

    February 26, 2023

I was able to fix by clicking and un-clicking the button for medical waiver payments.
