Are you asking if you can transfer your 2019 tax data from desktop software to the online software for your 2020 return? You will be able to do that, but not yet. Online for 2020 returns is not ready yet. It will be available in early December.

Unless your operating system cannot support desktop software for 2020, why would you switch to the inferior online software? If you are used to desktop software you are probably not going to like online. Online is not as easy to navigate, lacks Forms mode and lacks the "what if" features.

When you use Online TurboTax, you get one return per fee. Each return needs its own account and user ID. If you use the same account and user ID for a second return, you overwrite the first one and lose it forever.

When you use Desktop TurboTax, which you install from a CD or download to your own hard drive, you can prepare and e-file multiple returns for the cost of the software. You can e-file up to 5 Federal returns—more if you mail the additional ones. If you have multiple returns to prepare for family members, Desktop is more cost effective.

Thanks I am having trouble with the down load from turbo tax thought it would help to go that way {on line} but sounds like I was wrong. I will keep trying to get the down load to work. Never had this much trouble before. Not to sure I like this down load. Have tried so many things to get now I am really lost. They didn't make it easy for just the normal person to get it and down load. Maybe I should just buy the desk and try that.

Okay so you are not asking about switching from desktop to online after all. You are trying to download 2020 desktop software. Are you trying to download to a PC or a Mac? Does your computer meet the system requirements?
