Question

TurboTax duplicated the same dividend twice and I ended up paying too much on my federal return. How do I correct this?

    File /amended return

How did you do that?  The amend does not let me delete a dividend just add a new one?

Follow the instructions in the following link to start your amended return if you haven't already.

    Amend return

This link outlines the steps.  Once you start the amended return as instructed, you will be able to go to your input and enter the corrected information.

    1. For a 1099-Div form, you would go to the Income & Expenses screen.
    2. Select Dividends on 1099-DIV.
    3. You can delete your 1099-DIV that does not apply here.

The program will then compare the amount to what you originally filed to what the corrected amounts are, and will determine whether you owe money or if you are getting a refund based upon the corrections made.

You will need to mail the amended return in.   You will receive detailed instructions when you prepare and print the return out.
