Question

TurboTax making me input W-4 information right before I file???

I've completed my taxes and have gotten to literally the very last step, where I'm presented with the the screen to file electronically and the big warning that once I click "submit" I can't go back.  However, after I click Submit, it starts the transmission process, gets to the "Reviewing" step, and then stops and says it needs to get a little more information from me if it's going to efile.  Once I click through, it turns out the program wants me to add W-4 information.  I didn't fill out a W-4 through TT, leaving the fields blank and clicking through doesn't resolve the issue, and I've even gone in and manually deleted our W-4 forms, but it keeps hanging up there.

Anyone know what's going on?  I'm wondering if I can just put in my best guess or even gibberish, as I can't figure out what the IRS would do with a W-4 anyway.

You may need to call TurboTax Support because there is no reason you have to enter W-4 information.  That should be completely optional.  You can certainly try to feed it gibberish and if it works to get your return filed - great.  You can trash the W-4 once printed.
