TurboTax Premium not showing running refund/owe information

In years past when using TurboxTax online, my running refund/owe amount would show on the screen as I enter my data.  This year, I don't see that at all.  I've tried updating both Firefox & Chrome, but I have the same result in either browser.  Has Intuit removed this feature, or is there actually a problem?

When using the TurboTax online editions - click on Review on the left side of the online program screen.

The Tax Refund/Taxes Due meters will now be visible.

Thank you @DoninGA , this was the prefect answer as opposed to someone's "opinion". 😀

Yes, the refund doesn't show until you are done with your federal return. This is a change from last year.

I think the reason for this change is that many people would demand an explanation of each time their refund changed.

The fact of the matter is that if you don't have all of your information in the return, with all questions answered and the review done, the refund isn't accurate.

@wang33art That answer about not being available until you have completed the return is not true.

The refund meters are available for most users.  However, there are a few that are having this issue.

You can try clicking on Review or Federal Review on the left side of the online program screen.

If that does not help the try clearing cache and cookies on your web browser.

If that does not help then try changing your web browser to one of these you are not currently using, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge

Mine tax owed or refund showed up at the top after I saved my return information the first time. See if saving your return helps. Good Luck

Knowing how much tax I own while working on this was one of the main reason I used this product.  removing it is purely stupid. My tax is very complex, I have to add many small things that don't matter. It is very important for me to be able to get some bulk estimate on my situation.

If anyone find another software that can do this, please reply. (Assuming Intuit won't remove it)

This is really annoying. My taxes are complicated. I prefer to keep an eye on the numbers at the top and see it changing. If amount changes in the wrong direction then I know I have done something wrong. Now i will just not know. It makes it difficult for the user. I will not use TurboTax until then bring it back.

I am just spreading this to my network as much possible so that less people get affected before aware of it. Most of my friends gave a boot to TurboTax this year.

That was one of the only good features left. TT gets more annoying every year. My thought is always, how will it be more annoying than last year?

I am going to try the free IRS e-file. It might not give the running owe amount (but, TT doesnt either anymore), but it has every form you need to fill in, instead of annoying simplistic menu of crap that we have to use google gemini to interpret. I just want a list of the **bleep** forms, and fill in the slots.

The following was posted by another user and seems to have corrected this issue for others.

If you enter in your W-2 information, and then stop, and go directly to Federal Review on the left hand side, then go ALL the way through the review process (bypass anything that tells you it requires your attention), at the end it will FINALLY show up. Then, it will stay there, and you can go back and enter all your information in, and it will calculate for you as it has in prior years.

Somehow this still doesn't work for me. I'm using Premium. The refund meter is still missing from the top left screen. So far the only way to check is to click "View Tax Summary" in Tools

Same problem. None of the suggestions help.

However, if you click on Tax Tools > Tools > View Tax Summary (under Other helpful links...) you can see the current return.

It's certainly not as helpful as it is on screen, however, and I'm probably not going to continue to use TurboTax as a result.

This is a terrible change from Turbo Tax. Some of us use the running total to determine how much in deductions to NOT take in order to show higher income on a rental property. We are not paying too little in taxes, we are voluntarily paying much more than we need to!

Turbo Tax is taking away the most valuable part of the program that helps us understand how different deductions affect our tax liability. Please, please, please bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    It COMPLETELY sucks.

Found a solution - [Thank you Reddit]

On the left hand side, under "Tax Tools", click on "Tools" then "Review Tax Summary". Towards the bottom, you'll see "Refund Due" and "Balance Due".
