TurboTax Says I Over-Contributed to My Individual HSA
I'm married filing jointly, have an HDHP for only myself and I make payroll deductions to an HSA. I had this HDHP for the entire year and I contributed $3,148 via payroll deduction. This is what shows up in Box 12b. Yet when I run my numbers, TurboTax says I have to pay a $189 fine because I over-contributed? I am eligible to contribute up to $3,550, and in fact, I contributed an additional $402 from direct transfer from my bank account to my HSA and a small sum was deposited from my health insurance company, totaling $3,550.
I'm clearly eligible to contribute the 2020 maximum for an individual HSA, yet TurboTax says $3,148 is over-contributing? I should note that I did not add any HSA contribution elsewhere in the tax software yet, so it's not a case of double counting. What's going on here? Has anyone run into this situation before?
