If you are being prompted to upgrade you may have a tax situation that needs certain forms. Taxpayers are eligible for Free Edition if they file a simple tax return (Form 1040 with no schedules): that includes W-2 income, limited interest and dividend income reported on a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV, claiming the standard deduction, Earned Income Tax Credit, and the Child Tax Credit.

Please see this for more information:

Please see this product comparison that explains the right TurboTax product for each tax situation.

I have a turbotax Deluxe, why do I have to upgrade to enter a form 1099-B? I'm upset!

The Deluxe edition does not support investment sales on a Schedule D or Form 8949.  You need to upgrade to the Premier edition.
