Tweaking Recovery Rebate Credit calculation

My spouse and I have SSN, and we both qualify for the Recovery Rebate Credit. However, we have two kids for whom we'll be applying for an ITIN. Since they don't have a SSN, they *don't* qualify as child dependents for the Recovery Rebate Credit.

Even though I checked "their SSN is not valid for employment", TurboTax still includes them when calculating the Recovery Rebate Credit ($ 500 each for the first payment, $ 600 each for the second payment). How can I tell TurboTax *not* to include them, or provide my own value for the Recovery Rebate Credit?

Do the children have an Adoption Taxpayer Identification Number (ATIN)?

    IRS FAQ

Does my qualifying child need to have an SSN valid for employment or will an Adoption Taxpayer Identification Number (ATIN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) be accepted?

A qualifying child must have either:

    • An SSN that’s valid for employment and assigned to them before the due date of your 2019 return (including the filing deadline postponement to July 15 and an extension to October 15 if you requested it); or
    • An ATIN.

An ITIN won’t be accepted for a qualifying child.

Thank you for your answer but that doesn't really answer my question. I already know that my children only have ITIN (no SSN or ATAIN), and I know that's not valid to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit for them, but I don't know how to "tell" that to TurboTax, so that TurboTax won't include the children in the calculation (TurboTax should allow me to say "this child has an ITIN, not SSN).

Clicking on the "This SSN is not suitable for employment" should have also prevented TT from including the child in the calculation. What I ended up doing was going manually into the recovery rebate credit form and modifying the values. But if I wasn't paying attention I would have gotten the wrong numbers.
