Unable to load 2023 tax data into TurboTax 2024 Home & Business

I am trying to load my 2023 TurboTax return into the 2024 TurboTax desktop for Mac.  I get a message that there is "an error" when trying to load the .tax2023 file.  Then I try loading the .pdf file for 2023.  That seems to load but no data populates.  It seems to want me to enter everything from scratch.

2023 return was done on a PC.  Files were uploaded to Google drive then downloaded to the Mac.

I am using a Mac Air with Sonoma 14.6.

TurboTax desktop version is Home & Business.

Thanks

It sounds like the file was corrupted or not fully compatible across the PC to MAC platform.  This does happen when transferring files across both platforms.

As far as the PDF files, please look at this 2024 Turbo Tax link. It mentions the .pdf file may not populate if it was:

    • password protected in 2023
    • A scan copy rather than an original copy prepared in 2023

Try these to see if your .pdf return populates in your return if you didn't use this step.

    1. Open TurboTax Desktop.
    2. From the File menu, select New Tax Return.
    3. Select Begin.
    4. Under Let's Get a Jumpstart on Your 2024 Taxes, select Use a tax return that's on my computer.
    5. Select your PDF file, then Continue to start the transfer.
    6. Save your new tax file to make sure you don't lose any info and continue to follow the onscreen instructions.
