How to upgrade 2020 turbo tax home and business to business version? I already bought Turbo tax home and business and I couldn't return it since Box got opened.

TurboTax Home and Business (which prepares Form 1040 and associated schedules) and TurboTax Business (which prepares 1065, 1120, 1120S, and 1041) are completely independent programs. It is not possible to upgrade to one from the other.

You can still use H&B for your personal tax return.

Unfortunately for me, I waited to buy the software until I talked to someone at Turbo Tax. My case number is [phone number removed]. I explained my situation and asked if I could import either the tax file or PDF into Turbo Tax. I thought I was in a good place.

Today, I drove 43 miles each way to my Costco and bought Turbo Tax Home and Business, installed the software, updated the software, and was ready to import my file(s).

The PDF import did not work and after more research I found out that Turbo Tax only imports PDFs they generate. The support person I talked to clearly knew the PDFs were generated from a 3rd Party tax software. In desperation I started manually until I got to "Did you have any income and expenses for business in 2022?" Then I saw the note "if you have a Corp, partnership, or multi-member LLC I need Turbo Tax for Business."

The support person I talked to clearly knew I had personal, and S Corp LLCs.

Here's where I am, my PDFs didn't import, I bought and now can't use Turbo Tax Home and Business, and I have to buy Turbo Tax Business plus (2) State modules.

I had used Turbo Tax since it was a DOS program going into the late 80's, recently had to stop for a couple years because of the complexity of my business, my account passed away in Nov 2022, so I thought I would try and to it again myself.

What a total mess!!!

You can request a refund from TurboTax, even if you purchased your software from Costco.

Fill out the request at How do I request a refund for my TurboTax product?

If you are filing a business and personal return, you will need two TurboTax products.

TurboTax Business to prepare Form 1120S for your S-Corp
TurboTax CD/Download or Online for your personal return. Home and Business will work for entering your Form 1120S Schedule K-1, though you can use a cheaper product.

If you use TurboTax Online for your personal return, you can start with the Free

version. TurboTax will prompt you to upgrade as you go if Free doesn’t support your current forms. That way you will only have to upgrade to the minimum version necessary for your return.

TurboTax Business is only available for Windows Desktop.
