Upload previous year's .tax file

I'm trying to import previous year's tax in order to complete them. I've downloaded the .tax file from the online version, but I can't get the desktop version to accept the file.

You have to have the previous year TurboTax software installed on a computer before you can open the tax data file for that year.

To open the tax data file start the TurboTax program. Click on File on the upper left of the desktop program screen. Click on Open Tax Return. Click on Find a Tax File

The transfer of the 2022 tax file into your 2023 return has to be done at the very beginning BEFORE you enter any new 2023 information.

Do you get any error message? You don't import the .tax file, you just OPEN it. BUT first, after you get the program installed or reinstalled the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW). Enter some basic information, then go to the state tab and download the state program. Then try to open your existing return, go to FILE - OPEN
