Hello

im intrigued : for two years now using turbotax for federal and Utah state returns on form TC40 line 14 "state income tax from federal f0rm 1040 Sched A line 5a, the amount shown there which turbotax populates is much much lower than the actual amount of Utah state income tax paid and shown on my W2,  and listed on schedule A (albeit that the SALT limitation reduces the deduction to 10K).  can someone explain the number that populates on line 14 on TC40?  It doesnt change the Utah tax owed but I just want to understand where the number comes from/ how it is calculated  thanks

That number is the actual tax that you paid.  The amount on schedule A is the amount that was withheld.  That's why they don't match.  It's also why you pay tax on the refund if you itemize.
