Solved

Volunteer work was performed in 2021 and they ended up sending me $2,000 in 2022. How do I handle that? It isn't ongoing work or a business.

Report it as other income.

In TurboTax Online:

  1. From the left menu, go to Federal 
  2. Go to  Wages & Income
  3. Add more income by scrolling down to the last option, Less Common Income, and Show more
  4. Scroll down to  Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C and click Start
  5. Select Other reportable income and click Start 
  6. Enter the description and amount and Continue

In TurboTax CD/Download:

  1. Select Personal tab.
  2. Select Personal Income and I'll choose what I work on.
  3. Scroll down to Less Common Income.
  4. Select  Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C and click Start.
  5. Scroll down to Other Reportable Income and select Start and Yes.
  6. On the screen Other Taxable Income, enter a description and the amount and Continue.
