I accidentally sent in 2 W-2's for an employee both are identical it was not a corrected one, just an accidental clerical error.  What do I need to do?

If you already submitted the return, wait until the return is either accepted or rejected.

If rejected, you can delete the duplicate W-2 and resubmit.

To delete the W-2:

  • Log in to your account.
  • Select Federal Taxes
  • Click on Wages and Income
  • Select Edit next to Job (W-2)
  • Select Delete (trashcan icon) on the line listing the duplicate W-2.
  • Select Yes on "Are you sure you want to delete this W-2?"

If accepted:

  • Wait until the initial return is completely processed and you received your refund.
  • You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return.
  • Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return.
  • The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due
  • You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment
