Waiting to amend, can partner still file?

Hi,

Me and my partner own a house together, and I made the mistake of claiming more taxes paid and waiting for the 1040x to publish so I can amend. Because it may take months, can my partner still claim her amount and file taxes, or do I have to wait to amend and then she can file?

Your partner can file a tax return. The 1040X you need will not become available until almost the end of March--and then it will take the IRS about 4 - 6 months to process your amended return. Your partner does not have to wait for that. Partner just needs to file correctly.
