We have had custody of your grandkids all year and and now have legal guardianship. We have not received any stimulus for them. How can I get the stimulus checks?

My daughter had custody of her kids last year and claimed them as dependents on last years tax return. However, my wife and I have had custody of them all this year and now have legal guardianship. We have not received any stimulus checks for my 2 grandkids and I assume my daughter is wrongfully getting them. What can I do?

If you are able to claim your grandchildren as dependents on your 2020 tax return, you will get the stimulus payment for them as a credit on the tax return. It's called the Recovery Rebate Credit, and it will appear on line 30 of Form 1040. It doesn't matter whether your daughter also got stimulus payments for them.
