Question

We know for a fact my husband paid excess social security. I worked only 1 month. So did NOT pay excess SS, however, TTax is showing I paid a negative amt of 8K

In the excess SS screen it shows the correct amount he overpaid per his multiple W2s.  For me it shows $-8038.49.  No idea why turbo tax is showing this.  The excess is not flowing through to the 1040 at this time and I think it might have something to do with the -8K.

I recommend deleting your W-2 and re-entering it.   Since this is the federal entry, re-inputting the W-2 may correct the error.

Here's the general procedure for viewing the forms list and deleting unwanted forms, schedules, and worksheets in TurboTax Online:

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. In the left menu, select Tax Tools and then Tools.
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form.
  4. Select Delete next to the W-2  in the list and follow the instructions.
