Question

We normally do 40+ vendor events a year with our direct sales business. Due to the pandemic most of our pre-paid event fees were lost. Where would I claim that?

Along the same lines, the printed materials, ads, other expenses related to the vendor events that were cancelled. Items that can not be re-used for another event and as a result a complete business loss. I was hoping there would be a question leading through the pandemic related loss for self-employed, but didn't see anything.

Pre-paid event fees (even for cancelled events) and unused marketing materials are still deductible business expenses which you can enter in the Other Common Business Expenses interview of TurboTax Self-Employed.

 

This may result in a net business loss, but that is perfectly acceptable.
