What app is needed to open my downloaded tax file?

The tax data file, which has a file extension of .taxyyyy where yyyy is the tax year, eg .tax2018 for tax year 2018 can only be opened by the TurboTax software for the year of the tax data file.

 

A PDF of the tax return can be opened by any compatible PDF program, such as Adobe Reader.

 

If you download the PDF using the Edge web browser, the the browser probably changed the file extension from .pdf to .txt.  Rename to the file extension to .pdf
