Question

What do I send with my state and federal tax returns in the mail?

Do I send a copy to both of my W-2's? All forms I received in the mail? I usually e-file, but it says it's not available right now and I have to mail everything.

Thanks

When you print for mailing it will print with a page of filing instructions that gives the addresses to use for federal and state and tell you what pages to include with each one.  Most--but not all-- states want copies of your W-2's attached.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
