Question

What does the rejection code IL1040-8100-1 mean? I checked my state return and it was all correct.

My state return came back rejected with that code. But what it mentioned on the code, was all correct on my return so I do not understand why it was rejected. My fiance also got the same code as well.

I just want to clarify that this is the correct rejection code that you received? I have checked our database, but I have not been able to locate that particular rejection code. Please follow the directions below on how to fix a rejected return.

However, if this does not resolve your issue, please note the exact message and where you are encountering that message in the program.  We will work with you towards a resolution to file your return accurately. Please click the link to contact TurboTax customer support.

An e-file rejection just means that some things on your return don't match the IRS database.

If you received an ACTION NEEDED! email from turbotax@intuit.com, it'll give you a brief explanation of your reject and how to update it. You can also do this:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account and select Fix my return to see your reject code and explanation.
  2. Follow any “fix it” instructions to update the info causing the reject.
  3. Select File in the left-hand menu to refile your return, either e-file or file by mail.

Please click How do I fix a rejected return? to learn more.

I am having the same problem.  It will not take the expiration date of my state ID and then rejects the return

Is there an option to say you don't have an expiration date?   You can try contacting IL state directly regarding this rejection. Please see the IL link below for information. You may need to paper file your return if you keep getting this rejection code.

I am trying to help my 95 yr. old mother with her taxes. She has an Illinois State ID card and the number is 99-99-99.  And the TurboTax form will not take that number.  So her State taxes keep getting rejected. Please advise.

Thank you.

Continuing from question above. I meant to say the expiration date on her IL St. Id is 99-99-99.  In the past years there has been an electronic work-around. But I've forgotten what it is. Can someone here please advise?

Thank you.

I don’t understand what is wrong with my Illinois state tax on 1040-8100-1

@cm9853932

Please check your prior year's AGI or your driver's license expiration date and try again.  If this does not resolve the issue, please reach back out here.

How do I find last year's AGI?

Here's what I did after my return was rejected; even though all my info was correct.

After I went back through the third time to "fix" my return, when asked I ticked the option saying something like "I've never filed in Illinois before but I do have my Illinois DL/ID."

I entered the DL/ID info (all caps) including weight number listed on my ID card, and submitted my return again. My return was accepted in a couple hours. No idea why, but this worked (even though I've e-filed for 2yrs with Turbotax). Meh.

Anyway, I hope this helps someone else 😉

1.  Make sure you look at your prior year IL-1040 (not Federal 1040), line 11 and take note of that number.

2.  Make sure your prior year IL-1040 was e-filed or if it was printed, make sure it was mailed in that tax year for IRS to process it.

If either statement in line 2 above is true, then you will use the IL-1040, line 11 number as your IL AGI.

If either statement in line 2 above is false and there is a chance IL never received and processed that year's return, then zero will be your AGI for the prior year.

To enter the IL AGI in your online TurboTax screen, go to the FILE section of your return which is the last section of the process.  Just as there is a place to enter your Federal AGI, there will be a place to enter the IL AGI.
