If Congress changes anything for 2018 returns after you file, you will need to file an amended return.  That actually happened last year, when they passed a law mid-tax season that extended some credits that had expired.  Many people ended up needing to amend their tax returns.  Another good reason not to rush to file your tax return too early.

even worse for me. extended and filed on 10/15.  then in December got a corrected 1099-Div.  a significant amount went from being non-qualified to non-taxable.
