The answer depends on the facts and your circumstances.

I assume that you filed "Single". If you qualify for Head of Household, then you may consider amending your return to change your filing status.

Why?

First, note that the Standard Deduction for

  • filing Head of Household is $9,300
  • filing single is only $6,300.

This would reduce your taxable income by $3,000.

In addition, the tax tables provide generally better tax brackets for someone filing Head of Household than for someone filing Single.

However, the amount of difference in your refund - if any - depends on your particular circumstances. You will have to run the test for yourself.
