How can you file your 2023 taxes by 4-15 and pay a partial amount due?

Yes, you can and should file your return on time. You can make a partial payment, if that is what you can afford.

If your return is done, go ahead and file it by April 15. For payment method, select that you are going to mail a check. Make the largest payment your can afford to make, either by check, or by using an IRS payment option. Follow this link for options.

When you file a new return with a balance due while you still have an active payment plan for prior years, the IRS will make you set up a new plan based on your new balance.

Once the iRS has had time to update your tax account, they will send you a letter and you can set up a new payment plan that covers the entire balance due. Follow this link for more about that.
