Question

What if I made way less than $13k last year, do I still have to file? And if I already started, do I have to finish them? I fully intend on finishing, I’m just curious.

Again, I fully intend on finishing the taxes I have started. But now I am wondering if it was even worth it considering I didn’t make the federal minimum last year or the previous few years (college student here). I want to know this for the future too if I make less than minimum and if it’s worth it.

If you had tax withheld and have amounts in boxes 2 or 17 of your W-2's, then you can file to seek a refund.  If you have self-employment income of even $400 you are required to file a tax return and pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.

Who has to file?
