There is an exemption from the health insurance requirement for being in prison (after conviction). As you go through the Health Insurance section in TurboTax, after you indicate which months (if any) you had insurance, you will come to a screen that says "Did you have a situation that waives the tax penalty for being uninsured?" That screen has a series of check boxes for various exemption situations. Check the box that says "Spent time in jail" and click Continue. On the next screen check the boxes for the months that you were in prison. You will not have to pay a penalty for the months that you were in prison.
