If you are looking for your 2018 AGI to e-file:

There are four IRS forms that reflect AGI, each of which shows the amount on a different line:

  • Line 8b on Form 1040
  • Line 8b on Form 1040-SR
  • Line 21 on Form 1040A (for tax years before 2018)
  • Line 4 on Form 1040EZ (for tax years before 2018)
  • Line 35 on Form 1040NR

You can find the name of your tax form on the upper left hand corner of your return.

If you used online tax software, you can typically login and download a copy of your prior year’s 1040 tax return to find your AGI.

If you used TurboTax, read this helpful FAQ on where to find last year’s AGI to sign this year’s tax return.

If you are looking for your 2019 AGI:

Where can I find my 2019 (current-year) AGI?

You might be asked for your 2019 AGI if you're applying for a scholarship or loan.

Looking for last-year's AGI so you can e-file? We've got that too.

How to find your 2019 AGI

The exact location of your 2019 AGI (adjusted gross income) depends on which 1040 form you filed:

  • 1040 – look on line 7
  • 1040NR – look on line 35

Finding this number is easy if you already filed your 2019 return and printed a copy for your records. In fact, your lender will probably want to see a copy of your return so they can verify your AGI.

If you forgot to print a copy after filing, we have some links below that can help.

Tip: You won't find your 2019 AGI on your W-2 or 1099 form. Nor should you pull your AGI if you're still working on your federal return, as this number will likely fluctuate as you add or remove income or expenses.

Where do I find my AGI?

Your 2019 tax return shows your 2019 Adjusted Gross Income  (AGI)  If you filed a joint return then the AGI is the same for each of you.

Form 1040        line 8b

If you are using the same TT account that you used last year, you should also be able to find this number in your Tax Home for 2019

If entering the amount from your 2019 tax return does not work, then try entering “0” instead.  If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

You can get a free transcript of your past return from the IRS:

Didn't the answers above help?  You need your 2019 AGI to efile 2020. The AGI is on 2019 1040 line 8b. If you filed a Joint return you use the same AGI for each spouse.

If you didn't file 2019 or filed it later in the year then try entering 0 for the AGI. If that doesn't work you will have to print and mail your return.
