What is sent to IRS and state from TurboTax for the tax return? Ex. information gathered for Schedules A, D, etc.

And then, are there instances, ex. surtax, that require an e-file? I have always sent a paper tax return.

    Thank you, @mglauner

I was not sure if there is additional information sent besides what shows on the PDF file for "All official forms required for filing" OR "Tax Returns Only" under "Forms to review or keep for your records".

BTW, what is the difference between these 2 options for form generation? I saved a PDF of both and they are identical.

In your case, 'All official forms required for filing' and 'Tax Returns Only' are identical, but that's not true in all cases.  I'm glad you resolved this!

When I get to the "We Recommend E-filing Your State Return", and if I select "E-file my federal return now" and "E-file my state return now" and click on "Continue", will I have the option to review the tax return before it is transmitted to IRS/State? I am not fully done with my tax return so do not want to click on "Continue" and as I have mentioned above, I have never e-filed before.

Then, will I be able to print/save exactly what forms/schedules/supporting documents will be sent to IRS/State via e-file?

    Any guidance please?

Yes, in the FILE section, after you indicated you want to Efile, you'll see a link to Print/View/Save or Review your Return, depending on which TurboTax product you're using.

Click on that and a separate window opens with a PDF copy of your return.  You can save the PDF to your computer, and print your returns from there.  The print menu will let you choose 'Tax Return Only' or 'Tax Return and Worksheets' or a specific form.

Or, you can print right from the PDF window, but be sure to save the PDF anyway.
