The fact that box 3 is check means that the basis was reported to the IRS so the sales class will be either:

  1. A - short term, basis reported to IRS or
  2. D - long term, basis reported to IRS

The holding period will determine if long-term if held for more than one year (D) , otherwise it is short term (A)
