They have probably pulled your return at random for examination, to make sure it was completed properly. They will match your entries with what they have a record of to see if everything was entered correctly.

Have you had a resolution to this matter? I’ve been waiting 2 months for my Maryland refund and never even got a letter. I filed on 4/15/20.

That’s the same thing they told me. I filed mine March 1. It’s been over a month. The email said the review could be completed as soon as possible but due to COVID 19 it could be longer.

So it isn't just me? I wasn't sure if I was being audited. I emailed after a month, was told it could take 60 business days so I gave it more time. I emailed again after 60 days and was told they may take longer due to reduced staff and COVID19 but that if they needed anything additional, they'd send a letter and to start gathering receipts and other proof of expenses etc just in case?

It depends.

IRS operations are limited during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hi- I filed my Maryland Taxes on 4/15/20 and have not received my refund yet. I selected being mailed a paper Refund check instead of DD, so I’m not sure if that is holding it up.

The online system says: “Your return

has been received and is being processed.”

Has anyone else been waiting almost 2 months? I have not received any letters.

I believe the richest state in the country, Maryland is broke and waiting around to see how, to deploy their share of federal stimulus money and are randomly pulling taxpayers refund returns to see if unemployment insurance was paid, how much or not. Maryland recently is now charging tax for online subscription services and finding inordinate ways to get into the pockets of taxpayers and its not in a friendly way like the lottery.

I was told by the comptrollers office this review can take up to 45 days from the date of receipt of your tax return and may take even longer due to budget, staffing or other constraints. If additional information is required of you, the reviewer will send a request via USPS if more information is needed or your refund maybe adjusted accordingly.

I have been waiting since my return was accepted on 02/15/2021, the status online is always saying "Your return has been received and is being processed". Also if its been more than 45 days, were hardest hit by the pandemic or have experienced any kind of hardship you can ask taxypayer services to expedite the review.

I'm going through the same exact thing. Who do I contact to expidite the process?? My car is about to get repoed because of waiting on my state taxes😤. The letter I got when I emailed them after 6 attempts says for me to allow efficient amount of time for the review. Well it's been 66 days now. This is beyond rediculous!!

It's been 72 days for me. Will I ever get my refund or at least feedback? Can anyone offer me help? Please this is the worst time for Maryland to pull this stuff. It is a hard time for me and everyone. Thank you.

I filed and was finally accepted on 4/28/2021 Received a 45 day review letter. Emailed tax services. Then called comptroller of MD. Was told my return has been sitting in processing since I received the letter they sent. And told me they were sending my return for emidet review. Then got a return response from md. Stating it's been a long time. And he was expediting my return for review. Her it will be August 1st tomorrow still nothing 😔😔😔

Call your state congress person and make a complaint ... sometimes they can get things working.

I'm just curious if you received your return. I haven't heard anything since I filed 5/15/21. I emailed last week and received a response today saying,

"

Your tax return has been selected for quality assurance review. This review can take up to 45 days from the date of receipt of your tax return. Please allow sufficient time for this review to be completed. If additional information is required of you, the reviewer will send a request via USPS for that information.

If it has been more than 45 days from date of receipt, I am submitting a request to expedite the review of your tax return."

Its been 7 months with no correspondence. Does this mean an audit?

I e-filed my md state taxes on March 11 and received an email stating it was accepted on March 12. Since then Nothing has happened. checking refund status its said “accepted and processing” since March. I’ve emailed and called numerous times, they first said only mine is on a quality assurance hold and it can take up to 60 days. After the 60 day point passed, they just say “it’s after the 60 day point so it’s being expedited, you’ll just have to give it time.” No processing time given, not even estimates. Haven’t received any calls, emails, or letters. I’m on day 72 and have nothing or no one to turn to, my refund might as well have just up and disappeared.
