Question

When Federal Taxable wages (Box 1 on W2) is less than State (Box 17), website will not let me continue past state. Bug?

W-2 box 17 is state tax, not state wages. Did you mistakenly enter state wages in box 17? Check your W-2 entries in TurboTax against the actual W-2 form. Look for missing or extra digits, misplaced decimal point, and so on.

If you don't find an entry error, what state is it? What are the exact amounts in W-2 boxes 1, 16, and 17?

Sorry, I meant Box 16.

I did not manually enter the data. The site extracted it from a W2 it pulled from a service the employer uses.

The problem resolved itself after I used the previous button a few times to back up to see if I could see an obvious input error on an earlier page, then pressed next until I got to the page where the error occurred.  This time it stopped complaining about Box 16 being greater than Box 1 and let me continue to the end.

Given the multiple processing paths the site has to traverse, I would write it off as some obscure bug. Good luck trying to reproduce the problem.

Sorry I no longer identify the exact page where the problem occurred. Hopefully there is enough info in my post that the programmers can investigate if they so desire.

Thank you for the reply!
