Do about what?

Dependent do not qualify for the stimulus.

Nothing.  If she were to try to file her own return, she would have to say she COULD be claimed as a dependent and that makes her ineligible for the stimulus payment.

So when i did my taxes, i filed solely for the purpose of the stimulus check. I wasnt going to file at all because of United Finance garnishing my wages already for a 15 year old car repo, but i was willing to forfeit my return to get the stimulus check- while filling out my tax forms, TurboTax didnt mention anything about dependents, or the stimulus checks. Claiming my partner (wife) made no difference in my return amount so i left her anyway since ive always thought if you support someone you claim them.  And I get what you are saying, that she is now ineligible, but that is only because i claimed her. Otherwise, she Is eligible... I paid for the next package up in turbotax when doing my returns... Which i thought was for this kind of thing- did i waste my money too?

What!   Wife??  You said that you were unmarried - which is it?

A wife is a spouse, not a "partner".  A spouse can NEVER be a dependent.

If legally married under the laws of your state then you can only file married jointly or separately.  Jointly is almost always better.

And garnished wages are still wages earned and if above the filing threshold must be be reported on a tax return.     It makes no difference whether you were paid the money and then you paid your debt or it is garnished - it is still reportable income.
