Where do I input the amount I prepaid in taxes so that it decreases my federal tax due?

The IRS uses a pay-as-you-go income tax system, meaning you must pay your taxes as you earn income. To avoid owing at tax time,  if you made estimated tax payments in 2021 towards your federal, state, or local taxes, enter them in the Estimated and Other Income Taxes Paid section.

1. Type estimated tax payments in the search bar.
2. Click on the Jump to link in the search results
3. On the Estimated and Other Income Taxes Paid screen, scroll down to the kind of estimated tax you paid and select start.
4. Continue with the onscreen interview until complete.
