If you haven't filed then please follow these steps to edit your stimulus payments:

  1. Log into TurboTax.
  2. After entering all your information click "Federal Review" at the top of your screen.
  3. On the screen "Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount" click "Continue".
  4. You will be asked about the amounts of first round and second round stimulus payments you received.  If you did not receive a payment enter "0".
  5. TurboTax will then calculate the amount of stimulus payment remaining that you are still entitled to get.
  6. Any stimulus amount remaining due to you will show as a credit on line 30 of the 1040.

If you have already filed your return you have the option to "recall" your filed tax return. If you want to review and update your 2020 return, please enter your information here by February 6, to have your 2020 tax return sent back to you.  You will then receive an email from TurboTax on February 8, letting you know that your return is available and providing you with detailed instructions on how to review, update and re-file your tax return.

Other than that you will need to wait and see if your return gets accepted or rejected. Please be aware that the IRS currently won't start processing returns until February 12, 2021.

  • If your return will be rejected by the IRS, then all you have to do is make the changes on your return and refile.
  • If your return gets accepted you will have to wait and see if you receive your refund that includes the additional credit. If yes then you will need to amend your return and send the funds back to the IRS. Please see  FAQ How to amend a tax return for instructions.

But the IRS has not addressed the details yet. They will not open until February 12 and you would not be able to amend until that time and in the meantime, the IRS may establish a guideline. Please see this IRS Recovery Rebate Credit for more information.

Tax form for 2020 there was no place on form for me to insert my Recovery Rebate credit I did not receive. I was told to do an amended return and insert $600 on my amended return. I filled it out and inserted the $600 on line 30 of the amended form and sent to out by mail on 3/20/20. Still did not receive the $600. Now I filed my 2021 taxes and again no line on the form to insert the $1400.EIP amount. I did not receive that amount either. I called TurboTax on both forms for help to no avail.  Because of your software I never received my 2 payments. I was told to wait. So sorry I used your TurboTax software.

To claim your 3rd stimulus payment on your 2021 tax return, follow the steps below:

With your federal return open:

  1. In the search box, type recovery rebate credit, select Jump to recovery rebate credit link
  2. Answer the questions on the screens that follow

It might take a while for the IRS to process your 2020 amended tax return.

Where in the Turbo Tax Deluxe software can you enter the information regarding not receiving the 2nd stimulus? Deductions & Credits, Other Tax Situations.  When I go into Federal Review it asks 2 questions #1 Yes, I"ve entered everything and let's review and No, I have something to enter?  When I answer the latter, it gives me a list of forms and other tax documents, I do not see Recovery Rebate Credit?

If you have not received one or both of your stimulus checks, you will receive your payment in the form of a Recovery Rebate Credit on line 30 of your 2020 Federal tax return when you file.

TurboTax will compare your one or two stimulus payment amounts to the computations within TurboTax.  The computations within TurboTax are based upon the information that you have entered into the tax software.  If you are due an additional amount, it will be issued as a Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC) on line 30 of the 2020 1040 tax return.

In TurboTax Online, you are prompted to input stimulus check 1 and stimulus check 2 information under Review down the left hand side of the screen.

You can access your stimulus check choices by following these steps:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Across the top of the screen, click on Other Tax Situations.
  • At the screen Let’s keep going to wrap up.  Click on Let’s keep going.
  • At the screen Let’s make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click Continue.
  • At the screen Did you get a stimulus payment? you can update your stimulus check entries.

TurboTax will compare your two payment amounts to the computation within TurboTax.  The computations within TurboTax are based upon the information that has been entered into the tax software.  If you are due an additional amount, it will be issued as a Rebate Recovery Credit (RRC) on line 30 of the 2020 1040 tax return.

I am NOT in TurboTax Online, I am in the software on my PC.  Your response didn't address my question?  One would think there would be a software update to address this issue.  We've never logged into TurboTax Online. I apologize, I am old school, I enter all the information into my TurboTax and than transpose it to a paper copy tax form.  So where can this be entered or where is it addressed in the software please??

Of course the TurboTax program has a Search mode on both the online editions and the desktop editions.

Enter stimulus in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen.  Click on Jump to stimulus

There is no "Jump to" option on my drop-down menu.

I’m just wondering about the stimulus letter I was suppose to keep it until I filed my taxes which I did i just want to know will it be with my tax refund

February 14, 2022

@Ahulance, yes you will enter the information from the letter in TurboTax and the software will do the calculation based on your input and will calculate the amount accordingly if any adjustment is needed.

Follow the steps below to enter your information for the Rebate Recovery Credit.

In TurboTax Online, to claim the Recovery Rebate credit please do the following:

  1. Sign into your account and continue from where you left off
  2. Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then on Federal Review on the top of the screen
  3. On the next page titled Let's double-check the amount you received; you will be able to enter the partial amount you received.

I have tried the directions given to find the section for 'inputting stimulus check information' or 'to check information for stimulus' with no luck. It's like this section of questions is skipped over. I am using the same software for the taxes I did for my kids and I was prompted for this information. Why am I not getting prompted or cannot find it?

If your 2021 Adjusted Gross Income is over the maximum for receiving the Recovery Rebate Credit the question for receiving the stimulus payment will not be presented.

• Single or married filing separately—$80,000
• Married filing jointly or qualifying widow(er)—$160,000
• Head of household—$120,000

$600 first check  stimulus ln $1200 I didn’t get the Rebate Recovery Credit 2021 $1400

@Rodneyhall41

There is nowhere on your 2022 to enter anything about stimulus checks.

The first EIP --or stimulus check--- was issued in 2020  It was for $1200 for adults and $500 for a dependent under the age of 17.   The IRS used information from either your 2019 or 2020 tax return to issue those checks so they could send them out in a hurry.

The 2nd EIP or stimulus was issued in late 2020 or early 2021 and was $600 for adults and $600 for dependents under age 17.

If you did not receive the 1st and/or 2nd stimulus check you can get it by filing a 2020 tax return and using the recovery rebate credit in Federal Review.   It will end up on line 30 of a 2020 tax return and will be added to your refund (or reduce your tax due).

The 3rd EIP--or stimulus check-- was sent out in mid-March or later in 2021 and was for $1400 per person--adults and dependents no age limit.

If you did not get the 3rd EIP payment you can get it by filing a 2021 tax return and using the recovery rebate credit in Federal Review.   The credit will go on line 30 of your Form 1040 and will add to your refund (or reduce your tax due).
