Which will get me more money? Filing single, or letting my parents claim me as their dependent?

I lived with my parents for about 8 months last year. I was a full-time student but also had a job. I moved out in September and was working and supporting myself. I'm wondering if I would get more money back if I filed single or if I let them claim me as a dependent.

TurboTax software will allow you to compute the answer.

Under MyInfo, click Edit to the right of your name.

Then change the answer to the question Someone else can claim me as a dependent on their tax return. Click Learn more to the right for more information.

The IRS view is that only one person provided more than half of your support. See also the Support Test on page 14 at this IRS publication.
