My husband and I filled married jointly on March 8 IRS accepted March 11 before the tax exemption changed for when taxes should be paid. They said we didn't need to do anything yet we never received the difference in our refund. We also hadn't got the second stimulus so we were suppose to get all that on return. My husband has full residential custody of his 5 minor children their mother is not suppose to claim the children, yet for 2019 she claimed 2 and we aren't sure about 2020 [although we aren't getting the child tax credit]  therfore we didn't get the stimulus for all our dependents. The courts for the divorce ordered her to amend her 2019 taxes removing the 2 children since she claimed them knowing she wasn't allowed but we don't know if she has or will do it therefore we aren't getting full amounts we should be who can I call to talk to at the IRS

Hi @240 Shorty! The IRS is still processing the automatic unemployment income refunds. They started in May, and will be sending out refunds at least through September 22nd. I know that people have still been receiving those adjustments over the last couple weeks, so they are definitely still working on them. As for contacting the IRS, I recommend the following:

The IRS telephone number is 1-800-829-1040, and they are available from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday thru Friday. The best time to call is 7am (local time).

    1. The first question the automated system will ask you is to choose your language.
    2. Once you’ve set your language, do NOT choose Option 1 (regarding refund info). Choose option 2 for “Personal Income Tax” instead.
    3. Next, press 1 for “form, tax history, or payment”.
    4. Next, press 3 “for all other questions.”
    5. Next, press 2 “for all other questions.”
    6. When the system asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, do NOT enter anything.
    7. After it asks twice, you will be prompted with another menu. Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
    8. Finally, press 4 for all other inquiries. The system should then transfer you to an agent.
