If you are being asked to upgrade, you must be reporting income or a tax adjustment that requires more than a simple 1040.

If you do not wish to pay, you can see if you qualify for the Free File Edition. While the name is similar to Free Edition, there are no upgrade fees.

To you qualify

Make less than $34,000 a year or

Qualify for the Earned Income Credit or

Active military making less than $66,000
