Question

Why am I not able to e-file my 2023 Michigan State taxes? It says they’ll email me when forms are updated? (Form CF-1040)

Few--if any--state programs and/or state forms are fully ready.   And....  Your state return cannot be accepted until the federal return has been accepted.  The IRS will not begin to accept federal returns until January 29.

Click Review to see if you are missing some forms needed in order to e-file.

Many federal and state forms are not yet available.  Check here for form availability. The dates are subject to change.

Tax form availability tool,

No hurry to e-file since the IRS will not begin to accept/reject 2023 e-files until January 29.   And….a state return cannot be accepted until after the IRS accepts your federal return.

should be self-explanatory. The state's forms in Turbotax are not final. Thus state can not be e-file until they are finalized.  No rush. The IRS e-filing doesn't open until 1/29. thus any e-filed returns federal and state just sit on Turbotax servers until then. the sate can be e-filed at the same time as the federal or after but not before the federal is accepted.

  • I have the same issue.  And my federal have already been approved and show I'll get that in 2 weeks.  But the not being able to file my state is getting irritating especially because it would be nice to get a real answer on why.

The Michigan state tax forms for tax year 2023 are scheduled to be available on 01/31/2024 for both printing and e-filing

Go to this TurboTax website for federal and state forms availability - https://form-status.app.intuit.com/tax-forms-availability/formsavailability?albRedirect=true&product=Turbotax_online&bu=cg

This is beyond irritating this is my first and last year using turbo tax first it said they would be available the 29th then they pushed it back until the 31st I feel like turbo tax is unreliable and the most irritating part it you can’t efile using another software you can’t do an efile stand alone with the state it has to be on paper all software requires you to do both fed and state together this is ridiculous

Turbo tax says I can complete my state efile still via through them. (When it's ready). Hope this is still correct, as I've paid for both services.

Why sale programs and all forms are not available. States says forms will be available January 29, and its now February 1st and still not available. Poor business management. Next year may try someone else.
