Why am I only getting 500.00 for my oldest when he was 16/17 all of 2020? Why cant I get the 2000.00?

If your child turned 17 even on the last day of 2020 you do not get the child tax credit for him. You lose the CTC in the tax year that the child turns 17 per 2020 tax law, and instead you get the $500 credit for other dependents.
