Why can’t I download documents that have been uploaded to my TurboTax account?

There are some 1099 forms listed in “Documents” but I don’t recognize them and I don’t know how they got there. How can I view them? The title of the form, such as “1099-B” is not a clickable link. It’s just text. What IS that document and why is it there and why can’t I view it or download it or something?

TurboTax does not have copies or images of tax documents you imported.   Only the information that was imported is shown---on the forms and schedules and/or the worksheets.   If you want an actual copy of the tax document you have to obtain that from the financial institution that issued it.

Which brings me to these questions:

Is it possible to remove things from Documents?

is it possible to know which document came from which financial institution?

In TurboTax Online, I am able to select Documents in the upper left hand corner of the screen.  Then I select View documents from 2023 and view the following.

Under the three dots to the right under the title Actions, I am able to Delete the document.

In this example, the Documents are PDF files and may be viewed.  It is not clear from where the Documents were downloaded unless the document title or the detail provides that information.

In this example, I could compare the PDF documents to IRS form 1099-B entries to see whether the entries are complete in the tax return.

View IRS form 1099-B entries by following these steps:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Wages & Income.
  • Scroll down to Investments and Savings and click the down arrow to the right.
  • Click Start / Revisit to the right of Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other.
  • At the screen Let's finish pulling in your investment income, compare to IRS form 1099-B entries.

Click Tax Home in the upper left hand corner of the screen to return to the TurboTax tax return.
