Why can't I get turbotax to connect to the internet to activate my turbotax desktop. I have internet and already set up exceptions etc with my virus/firewall software?

I keep getting the message that I am not connected to the internet and to check my virus/firewall settings. I re-installed, added exceptions to virus/firewall for all the turbotax programs even though my firewall software said it was allowing turbo tax through and virus software was not blocking it.

In other threads, folks have found out that there IS a problem with the TTX servers for the activation code.

Some got thru later some haven't....could be spotty until that server is fully fixed....but it is being worked on.

Should be fixed by tomorrow, so wait until then to try again.

I am having the same issue.   I resinstalled as an Administrator.  Launched the TurboTax2024 as an Administrator and the same issue appears.  Connect to Internet to Activate.   I have used a different intenet provider, used my hotspot, used my wifi and even went to Starbucks.  All the same message appears.  How to bypass or resolve this issue?

based on a large number of postings here about inability activate TT and a spike of outage reports on downdetector.com this afternoon it's probably an issue on the TT side.

Same issue. Can't get past the activation screen - it says no internet. Even though it already used internet on the desktop app when it made me log in to my Intuit account. Tried turning firewall off, running as administrator, everything but can't figure it out. Let me know if you figure it out....

It took me an hour to figure mine out.  I found cryptic post to do the following:

To activate TurboTax 2024 without internet, you can try the following steps:

    1. Run TurboTax as administrator: Right-click the TurboTax icon or setup icon, select Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, and select the "Run this program as administrator" box.
    2. Add trusted sites: In the Control Panel, under Internet Options, add https:*.intuit.com to Trusted Sites and set the security level to Medium.

Step 2 is incorrect, it should be:  https://*.intuit.com.

When I performed both steps - it finally activated.

Same problems here. Think I'll just shut it down and wait for TT to fix it.

    Same issue for visibilty.

I couldn't deal with it any longer ... had lunch and killed some monsters in my online game ...

Came back and hit the "try again" button and it worked.

Must have been on the TT side as mentioned above.  I didn't do anything but walk away for a bit.

Hope it keeps working, fingers crossed and they remember to feed the hamsters.  🙂

edit:  All kidding aside, it would be nice if Turbo Tax would confirm that the issue was Turbotax, not the customer side.

    Thank you SteamTrain!!!

I had the same issue (also last year).

If you are running anti-virus (in my case, Norton), go to settings, applications and add the turbo tax program to give it permission.

    Worked right away.

I am going to put a note in my tax folder for next year so I don't forget.

    Hope that helps.

Is this fixed?  Still seeing a number of posts where people are getting internet connectivity errors and can't activate the desktop software they purchased (myself included).

According to SteamTrain's post it should have been fixed over the week-end.  Problem sounded like it was the server that activates, not all the servers.

I have no way to know myself if that is the case.

As of March 17 TT will not download on my computer, says the internet is not working.

Received error message 42001. My tech support could not assist and sad he spent so much time as I have to no avail.

I succumbed to Tax Act to prepare my corporate returns. Looks like I will use them for the personal returns also.

I used Turbotax for over 10 years but activation forced me to switch to HRB. But this year I had to file 1040X because they don't let you check the forms till you pay and efile. Within a minute, I saw an error. I suspected that their efile of 1040X didn't correct the error,  so I filled out the form myself and mailed it. I would certainly like to return to Turbotax if they could get this common problem fixed.
