TurboTax is free for simple returns which include W-2 income, some interest and dividends, retirement income, student loan expense deduction, earned income credit, and child tax credit. 

 

If you started in TurboTax Free and are now in TurboTax Deluxe, your return includes a form, schedule, or type of income that is not supported by TurboTax Free.
