Why couldn't I file for free this time? And what do I do if my refund is lower than the price to pay for TurboTax deluxe?

Do I owe TurboTax tax the other money after my refund? So in other words do I owe TurboTax 12 dollars?

If your refund is not enough to pay your TurboTax fees you have pay before you e-file by using a credit or debit card.

If you started in the Free Edition and entered any data that required any of those three schedules, you have to upgrade to a paid version and if you are watching the screens carefully you are alerted to the upgrade.
