Why did I get less back this year then less and why did I have to pay this year to do it? Would it have taken alot longer to get my refund it I didn't efile?

I am starting to wonder if there is a glitch with TurboTax. I printed off 1040 and did calculations by hand and came up with a bigger refund than TurboTax, but still a lot less than last year. I’m going to redo my numbers in TurboTax and see if it chabges, but part of it is I think we are having to pay more taxes this year with new tax law.
