Question

Why did i receive an email saying my bank account will be charged $80? I assumed this service was free after seeing commercials about how it's "free. Free free free" ya know..

Seriously, you’re asking now?

turboTax is free to start, the ultimate price is determined by the complexity of your tax return. Your post indicates you are posting from TurboTax online, which is usually $40-$60 for federal depending on when you file, plus $40-$50 for state.  Then, the fact that you were getting an email about a bank debit means that when you filed, you agreed to pay your TurboTax fees by having them deducted from your federal refund. If your federal refund is delayed for any reason, you also agreed to give TurboTax permission to deduct your fees from your bank account.  That service costs an extra $40 by the way.

Every time you agreed to an additional service, you were showing the price and asked if you agreed. At the time of final check out, you were showing a bill for your TurboTax services plus the refund processing service and you agreed to it.  You can log into your account to look at a summary of charges, or if you print your tax return, you will probably find that the front page contains instructions and a summary of charges.
