Question

Why did Turbo Tax calculate the incorrect PA State Refund, if the figures were transferred directly from my federal?

My federal refund was correct. Why is it that, not only was my PA refund incorrect, it was $0 (down from $1,770). That’s a huge difference.

No one can see your screen or your tax return.   We do not know what you entered into the software for tax withheld or paid as estimated payments to the state throughout 2021.   If you entered your amounts, then it would flow from the federal return to the state return.   Why are you sure the refund amount is incorrect?   Provide some details---but no personal information like SSN, email, etc.

Start by checking your data entry: especially state wages, state taxes withheld, etc.

What exactly did PA change that resulted in no refund?  PA has a flat tax rate of than 3.07%, so the $1770 translates to $57,655 of income.  Did you have a self-employment retirement plan? The amount you contributed towards it, which is excluded from tax on your federal return, is not excluded on your state one. The limit for employer and employee contributions for 2021 combined is $58,000.

@Joegreer3101 recheck your withholdings by comparing your w-2 (or othwe documents that have state withholdings) to what was keyed into turbo tax.  do all the documents reflect PA or another state?
